Matthew Letley’s drum solo filmed in 2005.
I’ve been really lucky to get in touch with the drummer of Status Quo, Matthew Letley. He has been with the band since 2000 and has been literally ‘rocking all over the world’. I sent him a copy of the article I wrote about Quo and was really excited when he agreed to answer a few questions for me to show on the Tumblr. I found it so interesting to hear what he had to say about his career and hope it will be inspirational for any aspiring musicians out there…
Frankie: Firstly, what did you make of the article?
Matthew: I thought it was very well written and informative.
Frankie: Can you tell us a little bit about your time in the music industry? Who have you played with etc.?
Matthew: I’ve been playing drums professionally since leaving school at age sixteen. I started out playing clubs, pubs and holiday camps and got my first big break when I passed an audition to tour with Judie Tzuke in 1983. Following that I went on to tour with Elkie Brookes, Kim Wilde, Bob Geldof, A-ha, David Essex, Vanessa Mae and Hank Marvin to name but a few.
